DINING WITH CHATEAU D’OUCHY
There is a well versed expression in gastronomy that dictates that ´you first eat with your eyes.´ If this is the case, then the majestic vistas that Lausanne affords its explorers with will have their appetites whetted for a range of stylish sustenance. The 12th century Neo-Gothic Château d’Ouchy bears a rich heritage of nobility and history, alongside a breath taking view of the Alps and all the natural surrounding tranquillity. Originally planned to be a fortress, the historical dungeon tower facade was built in 1177 by Bishop Landry de Durnes, before being extended by Bishop Guillaume de Champvent one century on. Fast forward to more present times, the Château became a hotel residence during the 19th century and was modernised by Lausanne architect Francis Isoz.
The Château combines the facilities of a 50 roomed hotel which has a fairy tale atmosphere. The hearty winter specials have recently made way for a lighter, more summer inspired menu of daily specials with mouth-watering seasonal choices such as Perch Meunière fresh from the lake, Vitello tomato with sadad and oregano French fries, ´Niçoise ´salad with confit tuna and crispy egg, Salmon with sesame and Biryani rice, Beef skewers with confit shallots sauce and vegetables and a Seabream tartar with thaï mango, crispy ginger & crispy salad.
A well stocked wine list featuring some excellent local labels takes care of evening refreshments before, during and after the meal for the perfect ending to any evening.
